Three tips to keep your mobile data safe

Description

Mobile gears are under big risk. You need to keep your data safe as mobile malware market is booming very fast. Here are three best strategies to improve your mobile security.

Solution:

Encrypt your phone

Encrypt your phone-1

Go to Settings, tap on “General” > “Passcode Lock.” Now, you have to choose whether you need four-digit numeric PIN or something more complex. For setting harder password, enter any longer passcode every time you want to use your phone. Most of the people use six-character passcode. After crafting your passcode, tap “Turn Passcode On” and enter your password. You need to enter it twice to confirm it. Always consider activating the “Erase Data” setting available at the bottom of the passcode lock settings screen. After enabling it, your device will remove all data after ten failed passcode attempts.

Encrypt your phone-2

Well, Android users need to use a slight complex method. All Android devices go through the long disk-encryption process. This encryption can take almost an hour or more. Keep the battery charged. Before doing this, make sure this encryption is irreversible. In Android, you can tap “Encrypt phone” after reading the entire matter related to Android app encryption. If you don’t have any PIN or passcode already then create one first. For this, go to “Settings” > “Security” and tap “Screen lock” at the top of the page. From there, you can choose either a PIN or a password. When you are done with this, go to the encryption page again and tap “Encrypt phone”. Enter your PIN and then it will ask for your confirmation as it is not reversible. If you are ready then click “Encrypt phone” one last time. During the encryption process, your phone will reboot several times. Wait until you see the lock screen return.

Keep malware away

Encrypt your phone-4

Android users are highly prone to malware and thus security is must. You must take help of various antiviruses like Avast, Kaspersky, and Lookout. They offer variety of security apps for Android so as to keep you safe online. Along with antivirus and malware scanning, security apps for Android offer security suite with features such as device location, remote wipe, backup, and suspicious-URL blocking. Remote lock and wipe features are helpful in preventing thieves from getting in your device after it is stolen.

Crossing borders

If you are crossing borders of other countries like United States, the agents will interrogate your belongings. Thus, it is better to keep your confidential data safe in a hard drive and leave that drive at home. Also, you can use Ubuntu on your laptop to keep your private data safe. By creating a Live CD of Ubuntu Linux, you can easily install your OS onto an SD card. Make sure that your laptop’s BIOS should boot from SD card reader.
